Epicycloid curves are produced by the rolling of one circle on another circle. In this model the motion of the smaller ‘planet’ gear in transferred to another gear of equal diameter attached to the crank link. When a coupler link is fixed to this transfer gear, the end point generates an exact straight-line motion. The entire motion of planet gear and rotating link are quite fascinating and beautiful to see If the rolling of the ‘planet’ gear takes place on the missle of a ring gear as in model S-16, a point on the outside of the planet generates hypo cycloid curves and this curve becomes a straight-line when the diameter of the planet is half that of the ring gear.
