In the planetary gear mechanism one gear is fixed (the sun gear) and another the planet gear) rotates around the periphery. The path of points on the planet gear generate epicycloid curves. The sun-planet mechanism was used in one of James Watt's steam engines. In this model two links of a four bar linkage (C1) are coupled in a sun-planet motion.
