Description:
MUDGE'S ESCAPEMENT (also invented by Tiede) This is a double ratchet system, with one pawl in compression and one in tension. There is a "dead" pawl action for checking, and a running pawl action for impelling. The releasing arms are moved alternately by the pendulum. The arm lifts are the pawl out of gear, and the weight of the pawl and arm gives an impulse to the return vibration of the pendulum, the acceleration being provided by the escape wheel.
