Description:
This gear pair model was created by the Illinois Gear & Machine Co Chicago. Cornell University acquired a set of 15 models around 1950. A similar set can be found at Ohio State University. Straight or spur gear pairs generate instant contact between paired gear teeth. Helical gears provide a gradual contact but generate an axial load. Herringbone and double-helical gears cancel the axial load within the gear. They are widely used in large-load, speed and power transmission systems.
