This gear pair model was created by the Illinois Gear & Machine Co Chicago. Cornell University acquired a set of 15 models around 1950. A similar set can be found at Ohio State University. The bevel gear pair can change high speed rotary motion about a horizontal axis [shown in the model] to slow speed rotary motion about the vertical axis of the large gear. Bevel gear pairs are found in many speed and power transmission systems.
