There is great similarity between this model and No. 55. No. 56 shows three types of motion; continuous rotary as in the wave wheel, oscillating or swinging as in the lever, and intermittent as in the rod. [Virginia Downward & William M. Clark, 1930] [Editorís Note: This mechanism is a three dimensional cam and lever device to convert rotary motion about a vertical axis into oscillating motion about a parallel vertical axis. Clark created this model after Figure 165 in Henry T. Brown's 1868 catalog of mechanical movements. FCM]
