Description:
A spur gear pair linked by two cylindrical joints forms a simple closed kinematic chain or gear train. In this compound gear train, a third gear wheel is fixed to one of the gear wheels, and a fourth gear is free to turn about the other shaft. Thus, two gears on one shaft rotate in sync while the other pair rotates relative to one another on the other shaft. In this model, the fixed gear pair has 60 and 62 teeth, respectively, while the larger gear on the other shaft has 75 teeth. Gear trains have many applications in rotating machinery, including transmission units in automobiles and trucks.
