noncircular gears
Description:
This heart-shaped gear pair is designed to illustrate that constant motion of one gear will lead to non-steady motion of the other gear. This principle was also used in cams as in models UK007, UK008. This model was popular for demonstation as evidenced by its being copied by the Darmstadt model-maker Schröder and sold to many universities and museums. However noncircular gears appear to have not been used very much in applications as they weren't described in many of the 19th century or 20th century books on mechanisms.
