Description:
This model shows a slider crank mechanism that converts linear motion of the piston into circular motion of the crank. The slider-crank has a deadpoint or kinematic singularity when the crank is aligned with the connecting link and linear guide. This model illustrates one of the means to avoid the deadpoint with the use of a forked link and a pin shown in the upper rear of the model. The use of the fork and pin to obviate kinematic singularities is discussed for the four-bar linkage in Reuleaux's 1876 book.
