Description:
In this form of the slider-crank linkage, the connecting link of model C-2 is fixed which allows the linear guideway to oscillate as the crank turns in a circular motion. Reuleaux called this a swinging block slider-crank. Another difference from the model C-2 is that the sliding link is enveloped by the oscillating slider. This inversion of the slider crank was used in some steam engines in the 19th century. It was also found on some steam locomotive engines of the 19th century. Modern applications include linkages for door opening mechanisms in which the cylinder is a passive damper.
