In model Z-2, rotary motion on one shaft is coupled to another co-linear shaft through a cylindrical coupling. The two cylinders are engaged with a lever-operated linkage. A detailed description and cross-sectional drawing of the linkage is described in Reuleaux’ 4th Edition of his The Constructor in the English Edition “three internal clamp pieces are fitted, each being provided with a bronze shoe. These are thrown in and out of action by means of a sliding collar.. which operates right and left hand screws by means of a lever… There is no danger of wedging the parts fast in this form of clutch…”
