Description:
In this belt drive mechanism, the input and output axes can be set at arbitrary angles to one another. The belt is guided by a single intermediary pulley with a crowned radius to assist self alignment. The position of this intermediate pulley is also adjustable. Belt and cable drives were common in the 19th century to distribute power from a central prime mover such as a steam engine. Today cable and pulley mechanisms are part of cablecar and lift systems to carry people up to high mountain terrains.
