Description:
In this model and model Q8 the teeth are placed upon the side of a disc in the shape of duangle pins (see model B1). The tooth system allows the teeth of one gear to pass around those of the other gear. Reuleaux calls this design 'shield gearing'. Footnote from Reuleaux, The Constructor, p133; "This gearing was called Scudi Dentati , in Zonca's Teatro di Machine, Padua, 1621."
