Description:
This is a beautiful pedagogical model which shows how the involute shape of the modern gear tooth maintains a constant velocity ratio between the two gears. Although Leonard Euler is credited with the first analysis of the involute gear profile as a constant speed gear tooth, it was Robert Willis of Cambridge University who demonstrated the advantage of involute shaped teeth over the popular epicycliod shaped teeth.
