Model: N19 Double Acting, Friction Wheel Levered Ratchet
This mechanism uses twin ratchet wheels with opposite directed saw teeth each with its own pawl. The lever has two friction wheels at the top and bottom that alternately engages each ratchet wheel. Attached to the wheels is a pulley which can lift a weight as the lever is cycled back and forth. In his description of this model in the Voigt Catalog, Reuleaux called this a “substitution model for a pressure pump.” The exact analog of this model to a double acting pump is not clear to this writer, however. Friction wheel clutches in the application to ratchets are discussed in Reuleaux’s The Constructor.
