Model: M04 Reversing Screw Mangle
This model converts steady rotary motion of the screw into automatic reversing motion of the linear thread follower. When the follower reaches one of the ends a mechanism switches the screw follower which automatically reverses the direction of motion without reversing the screw motion. This model differs from the reversing screw mechanism in model M-6. Model M-4 has a single screw while M-6 has crossed left and right handed screw guides.

Reversing mechanisms have a long history and can be found in the note books of Leonardo da Vinci although based on different kinematic principles.

Models of Reversing mechanisms can also be found in the collection of Ferdinand Redtenbacken of Karlsruhe, Germany, who taught Reuleaux.
