Model: Intermittent Spur Gear Pair
This gear pair model was created by the Illinois Gear & Machine Co Chicago. Cornell University acquired a set of 15 models around 1950. A similar set can be found at Ohio State University. In this intermittent gear pair, continuous rotary motion in the large gear generates a continuous rotary motion in the driven gear for 3/4 of a cycle and stationary motion or a dwell for a quarter cycle. This action is similar to a Geneva mechanism as in model N-8 of the Reuleaux-Voigt Collection in KMODDL. Such dwell motion devices are sometimes useful in manufacturing operations.
