Model: F04 Ramelli Chamber Crank Mechanism
This device is basically the rotary pump first described by Ramelli in 1588, although in that instance the rotary drum was located above the center of the cylinder, such that the weight of the blades was to effect closure. This mechanism has had application as a water pump amoung other uses.

There have been many reinventions of this basic idea, and the general principle found common usage in household refrigerators of which the Norge "Rollator" compressor was an example in the 1950's. In that case, the blade moved radially outward in one plane, through a slot in the cylindrical member.
