Model: S20 Conchoidal Straight-line Linkage of the First Kind.
This linkage is a special case of a slider crank mechanism in which the right end of the slider link traces an approximate straight-line. The unrestrained curve traced out by the slider link is similar to that of a conchoid of a circle. The conchoid of a “canon” curve is traced by a straight line going through a pivot point with fixed distances from the canon curve, which in this case is the circle generated by the crank joint on the slider line. One part of this roulette is an extremely flat section that for practical purposes approximates a straight line. Similar linkages are illustrated in Models S-21, S-22, S-23.
