A simulation of a compound mechanism that uses a geared pair and three links to trace a straight line. As the gears rotate in opposite directions, the bottom of the short center link appears to maintain a straight-line motion. This is an abstract model where the frame and supports have been removed, leaving only the moving links and their constraints. Click and drag the tip up and down, and watch it trace a straight line.
